Amid a rise in Covid-19 cases, the Union Health Ministry has directed all states to ensure the availability of oxygen, isolation beds, ventilators, and essential medicines. Mock drills for oxygen supply systems and facility preparedness are underway to assess readiness. Surveillance units are actively monitoring Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) and Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI), with genome sequencing of positive cases being conducted.

While the Indian Medical Association confirmed the presence of mild Omicron variants JN1 and LF1, it advised that there is no need for panic. Symptoms are short-lived in most vaccinated individuals. However, vulnerable groups such as those with cancer, kidney, or heart diseases should take extra care.

The IMA also recommended increased mask use in hospitals, limiting visitors, and promoting basic precautions like hand hygiene and social distancing. The public is advised to stay informed through official sources and avoid misinformation.
