The Haryana chapter of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has suspended services under the Ayushman Bharat–Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) from August 7, citing non-payment of dues to empanelled hospitals.

Representing nearly 650 private hospitals in the state, the IMA said the decision follows months of delayed reimbursements despite repeated assurances from the government. The flagship scheme provides health cover of ₹5 lakh per family annually for secondary and tertiary care.

IMA Haryana secretary Dr. Dhirender K. Soni said the state government has admitted to ₹490 crore in pending payments. “By the time this amount is released, pendency will keep increasing. How can private hospitals sustain without timely reimbursements?” he asked.

Talks held on August 6, between senior government officials and IMA representatives failed to yield a breakthrough. Following a virtual meeting with empanelled hospitals, the association confirmed the suspension of services from midnight on August 7.

On August 05, the government said claims under the scheme were being processed. Haryana Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Sudhir Rajpal assured the IMA that payments are being released and that all dues would be cleared at the earliest. He urged doctors to reconsider, warning the suspension could harm poor patients dependent on the scheme.

The IMA Haryana has scheduled a review meeting on August 14 to decide whether to resume services or escalate the protest.

The state health agency claims it has settled all eligible claims up to the first week of May 2025, with ₹240.63 crore received and utilised in FY 2025–26 (up to July 16) from central and state funds.
