In a remarkable life-saving mission, Hyderabad Metro Rail facilitated the swift transportation of a donor heart by creating a dedicated Green Corridor. This ensured the heart’s journey from Kamineni Hospitals in LB Nagar to Gleneagles Global Hospital in Lakdi-ka-pul covered a 13-kilometer distance in just 13 minutes, passing through 13 stations.
This feat, accomplished through meticulous planning and collaboration between Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR), L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Limited (L&TMRHL), medical professionals, and hospital authorities, showcased the city’s robust infrastructure and commitment to healthcare emergencies. A Green Corridor is a specially designated route that ensures a traffic-free pathway between hospitals to expedite organ transportation. Since its introduction in India in 2014, the concept has saved countless lives.
The donor, 34-year-old Malga Naveen, was declared brain-dead on January 17, 2025, following a tragic accident involving a tractor while riding his two-wheeler. Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, his condition deteriorated. Naveen’s family made the noble decision to donate his organs, leading to the successful harvesting of his heart, lungs, kidneys, liver, and corneas at Kamineni Hospital.
While three organs were used for in-house patients, the heart and lungs were transported to other hospitals through planned Green Corridors. Naveen’s lungs were transported to Yashoda Hospitals in Hitec City via the Outer Ring Road (ORR), covering a 39-minute journey that began at 9:45 PM and concluded by 10:24 PM, as confirmed by the Jeevandan Cadaver Transplantation Programme.
Leading the Mission

The transportation of the donor heart was spearheaded by Dr. Ajeya Joshi, a distinguished CTVS surgeon with 17 years of experience. Currently associated with Gleneagles Global Hospital, Lakdi-ka-pul, Dr. Joshi has worked in multiple cities across India, earning recognition for his expertise in cardiothoracic and vascular surgery.
Earlier in February 2021, Hyderabad Metro Rail facilitated its first-ever green corridor for live organ transportation. On February 2, a special, passenger-free metro train was arranged to transport a donor heart from Kamineni Hospitals in LB Nagar to Apollo Hospital in Jubilee Hills. This 21-kilometer journey was completed in just 30 minutes, significantly reducing transportation time and ensuring the organ’s viability for transplantation.
To facilitate this critical mission, Hyderabad Metro Rail created a dedicated green corridor, suspending other train services along the route to provide an uninterrupted and swift passage for the medical team. This initiative marked a significant milestone in the city’s medical and transportation history, demonstrating the potential of urban transit systems in supporting emergency healthcare services.
Hyderabad Metro Rail played a pivotal role in saving time and ensuring the safe transfer of the heart, using its Green Channel to provide a swift and uninterrupted route. L&TMRHL reiterated its commitment to supporting emergency services and leveraging world-class infrastructure for societal welfare.
