Government Grants ₹330 Crore for AI-Based Healthcare Innovation at IIT and AIIMS Delhi

IIT Delhi and AIIMS Delhi have formalized a partnership to establish a Centre of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare (AI-CoE), backed by a ₹330 crore grant from the Ministry of Education. This initiative is part of the ‘Make AI in India, Make AI Work for India’ program, aiming to develop AI-driven solutions to enhance healthcare access and delivery across India.

The AI-CoE will focus on creating AI-based tools to support national health programs, particularly targeting underserved and remote populations. The collaboration between these premier institutions is expected to foster innovative research and applications in healthcare, leveraging AI to improve patient outcomes and system efficiencies.

Dr. M. Srinivas, Director of AIIMS Delhi, emphasized the transformative potential of this collaboration, stating that it could significantly change the landscape of healthcare in the country. Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director of IIT Delhi, highlighted the goal of making healthcare more accessible and affordable through AI innovations.

This partnership represents a significant step towards integrating advanced technology into India’s healthcare infrastructure, aiming to address critical challenges and improve overall health outcomes.
