Gleneagles Hospital, Parel, Mumbai, has been awarded the Advanced Stroke Centre Certification jointly by the World Stroke Organization (WSO) and the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH), becoming the only hospital in Mumbai to receive this combined recognition.
The accreditation followed a comprehensive evaluation of the hospital’s infrastructure, clinical pathways, emergency preparedness, and stroke treatment outcomes. Under the Advanced Stroke Centre category, Gleneagles stands alone in Mumbai with WSO–NABH recognition.
The hospital’s stroke care programme is driven by a multidisciplinary team led by Dr Shirish Hastak, Dr Nitin Dange, and Dr Pankaj Agarwal, supported by interventional specialists and critical care physicians. Care is coordinated across the entire continuum, from rapid diagnosis and intervention to rehabilitation. Key performance indicators such as Door-to-Needle Time (DTNT) and Door-to-Groin Time (DTGT) are closely tracked to improve recovery outcomes.
Gleneagles Hospital houses a dedicated Neuro Critical Care Unit catering to patients with acute neurological conditions, including stroke. Treatment protocols align with international standards, ensuring thrombolysis is administered within the recommended 4.5-hour therapeutic window.
The hospital is also the first in Mumbai to be certified under the NABH Advanced Stroke Centre Certification Programme, which assesses neurology and neurosurgery services, use of advanced technology, adherence to stroke protocols, and availability of 24×7 multidisciplinary care.
In addition, Gleneagles Hospital has received recognition from the World Stroke Organization/Angels Awards Committee for its stroke data reporting, treatment efficiency, and patient outcomes. The WSO NABH Advanced Stroke Centre Certificate is granted for consistently maintaining high standards of stroke care across multiple assessment cycles.
Commenting on the achievement, Dr Bipin Chevale, CEO of Gleneagles Hospital, Mumbai, said the dual accreditation reflects the hospital’s strong clinical systems and collaborative approach. “We continuously analyse stroke data to identify gaps and improve response times, enabling us to deliver reliable outcomes even in complex cases. Being the only hospital in Mumbai with WSO–NABH Advanced Stroke Centre recognition underscores our commitment to patient safety, clinical excellence, and global quality benchmarks. With stroke incidence rising, our focus remains on strengthening emergency response and providing timely, coordinated, and compassionate care,” he said.
