Fortis Hospital has launched a new institute dedicated to genomic medicine in Delhi, aimed at advancing personalised and gene-targeted healthcare for diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular conditions, and neurological disorders. Named the Fortis Institute of Genomic Medicine, the facility will utilise genetic testing to enhance early detection, improve diagnosis, and deliver more precise treatment, the hospital announced in a statement.
The institute brings together a multidisciplinary team of specialists from oncology, cardiology, neurology, pathology, and genomics to collaborate on patient care. Its primary focus areas include onco-genomics, cardio-genomics, and neuro-genomics, using genetic insights to develop targeted treatment strategies based on individual DNA profiles.
Anil Vinayak, Group Chief Operating Officer at Fortis Healthcare, said this initiative will not only support early risk detection but also significantly improve the precision of treatments—especially in complicated medical cases such as rare neurological disorders, congenital heart conditions, and aggressive cancers.
“By embedding genomics into our core medical offerings, we’re strengthening our capability to provide customised, data-driven healthcare and setting new benchmarks in medical innovation,” Vinayak stated.
Speaking at the event, Yash Rawat, Facility Director of Fortis Memorial Research Institute (FMRI) in Gurugram, stressed the importance of genomics in addressing the growing threat of non-communicable diseases in India. “Whether it’s a child with unexplained anaemia or a woman with a family history of breast cancer, genomics enables tailored treatment plans that improve outcomes and lower risks,” he explained.
According to Fortis, genomic medicine will empower doctors to better understand a patient’s inherited or rare conditions, make more accurate diagnoses, and offer highly personalised care based on genetic factors.
