The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has confirmed that at least five MBBS students, one postgraduate resident doctor, and the wife of a superspecialist from BJ Medical College were among those who lost their lives in the devastating Air India crash. Over 60 medical students were also injured in the incident.
FAIMA national vice president Dr. Divyans Singh stated, “The bodies recovered were completely charred,” underscoring the severity of the tragedy and the challenges in identification.
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) expressed profound sorrow over the loss of lives and extended prayers for the speedy recovery of those injured. In a statement, the IMA said, “IMA stands in solidarity with the families of the victims during this difficult time. We are committed to providing all possible medical support and coordinating with local authorities for relief efforts.”
A team of doctors from IMA’s Gujarat branch, supported by the IMA-Medical Student Network, has been deployed to the crash site and City Hospital, Ahmedabad, to assist with emergency medical care.
“This tragedy reminds us of the importance of rapid response and unified support in moments of national crisis,” the IMA added.
