ECDS, a company focused on sustainable development technologies, has announced plans to establish a medical equipment manufacturing plant in Ujjain with an initial investment of Rs 780 crore. The project will be developed as a 50:50 joint venture with three South Korean firms and will mark the company’s first manufacturing facility in India.

Rajesh Bharadwaj, Director of ECDS’s India operations, said the company has submitted a proposal to the Madhya Pradesh government to set up the unit on 15.60 acres within the Medical Equipment Park at Vikram Udyogpuri, Ujjain. Of this, 1.5 acres have already been acquired.

Construction of the facility is expected to begin this year, with the first phase of production slated to commence by April 2027. The initial phase is projected to generate employment for around 500 people.

Bharadwaj further stated that an additional Rs 1,250 crore will be invested in the second phase, planned within three years of the start of production.

The Ujjain plant will manufacture diagnostic kits for diseases such as cancer, kidney disorders, and diabetes. The products will be developed using nanofiber and biomass polymer technologies.

Additionally, ECDS has proposed leveraging advanced artificial intelligence (AI) solutions to assist the state government in crowd management during the Simhastha Kumbh Mela scheduled to be held in Ujjain in 2028.
