Dr Vedprakash Mishra has been appointed Chairman of the National Experts Panel formed by the National Medical Commission (NMC) to enhance and strengthen standards of medical education across India.
At present, Dr Mishra serves as Chief Advisor at Datta Meghe Institute of Medical Education and Research and also as Chief Advisor to the Chancellor of Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences. He is additionally the National Head of the Academic Programme of the Indian Programme of the UNESCO Chair in Bioethics.
Born in Nagpur, Dr Mishra completed his MD and later pursued a Master’s degree in Industrial Relations and Personnel Management along with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism. In recognition of his extensive contribution to medical education, six Health Sciences Universities across India have conferred upon him the honorary degree of D.Sc. (Honoris Causa).
During his long academic and administrative career, Dr Mishra also served as Chancellor of Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences from 2014 to 2019. His association with the former Medical Council of India spans more than three decades, during which he held several important positions including Chairman of the Postgraduate Medical Education Committee, Chairman of the Finance Committee, Member of the Executive Committee, and Chairman of the Academic Committee.
He has also been honoured with titles such as “Professor Emeritus”, “Professor of Eminence”, and “Professor of Excellence” by five Health Sciences Universities in the country. Dr Mishra currently serves as Honorary Advisor to the Indian Medical Association and Chairman of its Standing Committee for Medical Education headquartered in New Delhi.
Over the years, he has been associated with several reputed institutions as a member of Boards of Management, Governing Councils, and Advisory Councils related to medical education, management, and research.
Among his notable achievements, Dr Mishra became the youngest teacher member on the Senate of Nagpur University and also the youngest Dean of its Faculty of Medicine. He has received more than 100 national and international awards for his contribution to higher and medical education over the past three decades.
The National Experts Panel also comprises Dr Vivek Saoji, Vice Chancellor of Bharati University, Pune; Dr Purnima Barua, Professor of Microbiology and Medical Superintendent at Medical College, Guwahati; Dr R Krishnamohan, Vice Chancellor of Panimalar Medical College, Chennai; and Jego Ori, member of the Undergraduate Medical Education Board of the NMC.
