The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has named Dr Vatsala Aggarwal as the new Director General of Health Services (DGHS) for Delhi, effective immediately.
According to an order issued on August 19 with the approval of the Lieutenant Governor, Dr Aggarwal has been relieved from her earlier duties and directed to assume charge of her new role without awaiting formal release from her previous posting.
Dr Aggarwal, who was serving as Chief Medical Officer (SAG) at Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital, has held several leadership positions in the capital’s healthcare system. She has previously headed Janakpuri Super Speciality Hospital and also managed the Delhi State Cancer Institute in an additional capacity.
Her appointment follows a period of instability in the DGHS office. After the voluntary retirement of Dr Rati Makkar on August 9, the role was temporarily handled by Dr Rajesh Kumar. Prior to that, Dr Vandana Bagga, who had been serving as DGHS, was suspended in January, leaving the post unoccupied until Dr Makkar’s appointment in April.
The official notification also clarified that no extra remuneration will be provided for the new assignment, and the transfer of responsibilities must be carried out immediately.
