Senior endocrinologist and Dean (Academic) Dr. Nikhil Tandon has been entrusted with the additional responsibility of overseeing the duties of Director at AIIMS New Delhi, following the transition of Dr. M Srinivas to a full-time role at NITI Aayog.
As per an official memorandum issued by the institute, the arrangement has been made under Rule 9(4) of the AIIMS Rules, 2019. The order states that Dr. Tandon, who is Professor and Head of the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism, will discharge the functions of the Director alongside his existing responsibilities.
The interim arrangement takes effect immediately and will remain in place for six months or until a regular director is appointed, whichever occurs earlier. The memorandum also clarifies that Dr. Tandon will not receive any additional remuneration or honorarium for this role.
A distinguished clinician-researcher, Dr. Tandon is known for his expertise in diabetes and cardio-metabolic disorders. He has led multiple national and international research and public health initiatives and has been actively involved in expert panels focusing on diabetes, obesity, and chronic disease management.
Dr. M Srinivas, who has served as Director of AIIMS since 2022, has now been appointed as a full-time member of NITI Aayog.
