Influenza cases are rising in the national capital, with Delhi reporting around 3,000 influenza cases this year, including 2,308 H1N1 infections. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has called an emergency review meeting to assess the city’s preparedness and strengthen arrangements for seasonal influenza and vector-borne diseases.
Health Minister Reviews Preparedness
Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said the situation remains under control, with adequate doctors, healthcare staff and medicines available. He made the remarks after a review meeting involving senior officials from the Health Department, MCD, NDMC and Delhi Cantonment Board.
Singh assured residents that there is no need to panic and said patients are receiving treatment and being discharged as appropriate.
Isolation Wards Available in Hospitals
The minister said isolation wards have been established in every hospital to manage influenza patients. He also warned that action would be taken against hospitals if patients reported being denied beds when admission was required.
H1N1 Accounts for Majority of Influenza Cases
Of the approximately 3,000 influenza cases reported in Delhi this year, 2,308 are H1N1 infections, making it the dominant strain among reported cases. The remaining cases involve other influenza strains.
Symptoms and When to Seek Medical Care
H1N1, commonly known as swine flu, can cause fever, cough, sore throat, headache, body aches and fatigue. People experiencing persistent high fever, breathing difficulty, chest pain, confusion or worsening symptoms should seek medical attention promptly.
Officials have reiterated that the current situation is being closely monitored and that healthcare facilities are prepared to manage the increasing number of cases.
