The Delhi government has rapidly scaled up its primary-healthcare network, inaugurating over 200 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAMs) within an eight-month span, officials said. In the latest phase, the government has launched 70 additional AAMs, bringing the total number of operational clinics across the capital to more than 200, spanning 10 of the city’s 11 districts.

These neighbourhood-level clinics envisioned as “the backbone of community healthcare” offer a broad range of services beyond simple OPD care. Services now include free medicines, lab tests, maternal and child care, elderly and chronic-disease healthcare, mental-health support, dental care and immunisations. According to the government, the expansion marks a deliberate shift from the previous model of small-scale “Mohalla Clinics,” towards more comprehensive and permanent health centres under the Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM).

Officials say these AAMs are intended to reduce the patient load on tertiary hospitals and provide accessible, affordable care within walking distance for city residents especially benefiting women, elderly citizens, and lower-income communities. With plans to ultimately establish over 1,100 AAMs by March 2026, the government’s rapid rollout in eight months signals a major transformation in how primary healthcare is delivered in Delhi.

As the new facilities come online, residents across Delhi’s neighbourhoods are set to benefit from immediate access to essential health services potentially changing the city’s public-health landscape for the better.
