Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk was shifted from Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram on evening of July 21 following a Delhi High Court order, where he will continue to receive specialised medical care.
The High Court directed the immediate transfer while hearing an appeal filed by Wangchuk’s wife, Gitanjali J. Angmo. The Bench observed that doctors from AIIMS and Safdarjung Hospital agreed that Wangchuk, who has been on an indefinite fast since June 28 over alleged examination irregularities, requires constant medical supervision.
Safdarjung Hospital stated that Wangchuk was discharged in a stable condition, with his vital parameters remaining normal. However, doctors noted that he continues to have pancytopenia and his serum potassium level remains at 3.4 mEq/L, requiring close monitoring.
The hospital added that all medical records, investigation reports, and treatment documents have been handed over to the Medanta medical team to ensure uninterrupted continuity of care during his treatment.
