As Covid-19 cases rise globally in cities like Singapore and Hong Kong, India has seen a recent uptick as well. Active cases in the country have increased to 257, with Kerala (95 cases) and Maharashtra (56 cases) reporting the highest numbers.
In Mumbai, officials from the BMC confirmed a mild spike in cases but assured there’s no cause for concern. Two recent deaths at KEM Hospital were linked to serious comorbidities, not Covid itself. The BMC has stepped up preparations by reserving ICU and special care beds at Seven Hills and Kasturba hospitals.
Officials noted that while testing isn’t mandatory anymore, the city is seeing a seasonal rise in respiratory illnesses. Dr. Mohan Joshi from Sion Hospital said most Covid cases are mild due to high vaccination rates.
Nationally, the Union Health Ministry also emphasized that recent Covid cases are mostly mild, with no unusual severity or deaths reported. Surveillance is ongoing through IDSP and ICMR.
