Hospital defends procedures
In a statement, Sahyadri Hospital confirmed receiving the notice and maintained that all operations were carried out in accordance with established medical protocols. The hospital said Bapu Komkar had been a high-risk patient with multiple health complications, and despite efforts, he succumbed to cardiogenic shock two days after the transplant.
The hospital further explained that while Kamini initially recovered well, she later developed septic shock and multi-organ failure, which proved fatal despite advanced treatment.
“We deeply sympathise with the Komkar family. A living donor liver transplant is an extremely complex surgery, and in this case, all known risks were discussed with the family beforehand,” the hospital said, assuring full cooperation with the investigation.
