The long-pending proposal to relocate the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) office in the Bareilly district has finally received approval from the Uttar Pradesh government. The office, currently housed in the district hospital premises, will now operate from a newly constructed three-storey building in the 300-bed hospital campus.

The proposal, which was sent about eight months ago, has now been approved, speeding up the preparations for the new construction. The tender process for the new building has been completed, and the executing agency has been appointed.

CMO Dr. Vishram Singh informed, “The government has approved the shifting of six offices to the 300-bed hospital campus. The new building is expected to be completed in about a year.”

Relief from a Dilapidated Building

Currently, the CMO office is functioning in a more than 80-year-old building within the district hospital premises. The building has become severely dilapidated over the years. The first official CMO was appointed in 1973, and since then, this building has been used as the CMO office. During the rainy season, water leaks from the roof, and plaster has fallen multiple times, causing inconvenience and safety risks for the staff. The new building will also feature a Public Facilitation Center, enabling citizens to easily access health-related information and services.
