City Imaging & Clinical Labs has installed India’s first United Imaging uCT Orion Elite CT scanner at its Dwarka centre in Delhi, introducing AI-assisted imaging capabilities and ECG-gated calcium scoring on a non-cardiac CT platform.

The 80-slice multi-slice CT system incorporates artificial intelligence and advanced image reconstruction technologies designed to improve image clarity, minimise motion-related distortions and support diagnostic assessments.

The scanner features DELTA, a deep-learning-based image reconstruction algorithm, combined with Karl3D hybrid iterative reconstruction technology. According to the manufacturer, the integration is designed to reduce image noise and improve the visualisation of anatomical structures.

AI-Based Features to Improve Imaging Accuracy

One of the scanner’s key features is Motion Freeze AI technology, which is designed to correct head movements during scanning. The technology addresses different types of movement, including rotation and translation, potentially improving image quality for children, elderly patients and individuals who find it difficult to remain still.

The system also includes dual AI cameras for patient positioning and movement monitoring. Its automated Qcheck platform identifies potential imaging issues, including motion artefacts, metal interference, respiratory movement and incorrect scan ranges.

Additionally, the scanner incorporates an AI-assisted alert system that can flag suspected intracranial bleeding on head CT images for further clinical assessment.

Calcium Scoring on a Non-Cardiac CT Platform

The uCT Orion Elite supports ECG-gated coronary calcium scoring, allowing clinicians to assess calcified deposits in coronary arteries. The system automatically identifies calcified areas and generates calcium scores along with volume and mass measurements.

These findings can help doctors assess cardiovascular risk when considered alongside a patient’s medical history and other clinical factors.

Commenting on the installation, Dr Aakar Kapoor, Founder, Partner and Consultant Radiologist at City Imaging & Clinical Labs, said the investment reflects the centre’s focus on introducing clinically useful diagnostic technologies and expanding imaging services for patients.

The scanner supports tube voltage settings between 60 kV and 140 kV and image reconstruction at a resolution of 1024 × 1024 pixels.

With this installation, City Imaging & Clinical Labs aims to expand access to advanced CT examinations and calcium scoring services for patients in Dwarka and surrounding areas of Delhi.
