Following the deadly fire at Prasad Hospital that resulted in the deaths of seven patients, authorities in Muzaffarpur have launched a major crackdown on private hospitals and nursing homes across the district.
The large-scale enforcement campaign aims to strengthen compliance with safety norms and identify lapses that could pose risks to patients. Officials described it as one of the most extensive inspection exercises undertaken in the district’s healthcare sector.
The drive began in the vicinity of Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH), a key healthcare hub in the city. A joint team comprising district administration and health department officials, led by Sub-Divisional Magistrate Tushar Kumar, conducted surprise inspections at several private healthcare facilities.
During the inspections, authorities took immediate action against establishments found lacking mandatory fire safety measures or operating without the necessary approvals and documentation. Several such facilities were sealed on the spot, officials said.
