Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced that doctors employed by the Bihar government will soon be prohibited from undertaking private practice, as part of a new policy aimed at strengthening healthcare services in state-run hospitals.
Speaking at a public gathering in Bettiah on the first day of his Samriddhi Yatra, the Chief Minister said the proposed policy would ensure greater availability of doctors in government hospitals, enabling patients to receive timely treatment. “Government doctors in Bihar will not be allowed to engage in private practice. A new policy is being formulated for this purpose,” he said.
During his 34-minute address, Kumar also spoke about the state government’s initiatives focused on women’s empowerment and employment generation, announcing a target of creating jobs and employment opportunities for one crore people over the next five years.
As part of the yatra, the Chief Minister visited Kumarbagh, where he reviewed the Special Economic Zone and laid foundation stones for 125 development projects valued at Rs 153 crore, while inaugurating 36 completed projects worth Rs 29 crore. He also laid the foundation stone for the Vardhan Biogas Plant and assessed plans for expanding the Kumarbagh Industrial Area.
In addition, Kumar laid the foundation stone for a women’s labour hostel, to be built at a cost of Rs 19 crore. He later visited Ramna Maidan in Bettiah, where he inaugurated an agriculture fair.
The Chief Minister directed officials to ensure effective implementation of welfare schemes and reviewed progress on announcements made during the Pragati Yatra. He stressed the need for timely completion of projects with a focus on quality, and instructed departments to address public grievances in line with the Saat Nischay-3 commitments and the government’s Sabka Samman–Jeevan Aasan (Ease of Living) policy.
