The Bangalore Bioinnovation Centre (BBC) has entered into a memorandum of understanding with the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) to help startups secure international accreditation more quickly.

The collaboration is designed to support early-stage biotechnology and life sciences companies at BBC by providing faster access to globally recognised quality certifications. The move is expected to help startups validate their products, laboratory processes and research data for international markets.

As part of the agreement, startups incubated at BBC will receive guidance, training and technical support to comply with NABL standards, including quality management systems aligned with ISO/IEC 17025 and related frameworks. Officials said the initiative would simplify accreditation procedures, reduce delays and strengthen laboratory practices, enabling startups to move faster from the research stage to commercialisation.

BBC Chairperson Manjula N said the partnership would further strengthen Karnataka’s reputation as a major life sciences innovation hub. She noted that the centre has already supported more than 500 innovation projects, patents and collaborations with global institutions, including La Trobe University in Melbourne.

NABL Chief Executive Officer Ramanand N Shukla said closer collaboration with BBC would help expand accreditation opportunities for startups and MSMEs, while also improving confidence among regulators, investors and international partners in India-developed diagnostics, assays and other deep-tech products.

The MoU will also create a structured framework for skill development through NABL-led programmes focused on quality assurance, documentation, internal audits and proficiency testing tailored for startups. Industry stakeholders believe the initiative could help Karnataka-based life sciences ventures compete more effectively in regulated global markets and international supply chains.
