The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) has achieved another significant milestone, with the number of Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) IDs crossing 93.95 crore and more than 105 crore digital health records now linked to the platform, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The achievement underscores the rapid expansion of India’s digital health ecosystem and the growing adoption of interoperable healthcare services across the country. The latest progress was reviewed during the third meeting of the Mission Steering Group (MSG), chaired by Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda. The meeting assessed the implementation of ABDM and outlined the roadmap for the next phase of the mission with a greater emphasis on enhancing adoption, improving utilization and strengthening digital health infrastructure nationwide.

Launched in September 2021, the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission aims to establish a secure, interoperable and citizen-centric digital health ecosystem. At the heart of the initiative is the ABHA number a unique digital health identifier that enables individuals to create, store and share their health records with healthcare providers through a consent-based framework. The mission seeks to improve continuity of care, reduce duplication of medical records and facilitate seamless access to healthcare services across public and private institutions.

The Health Ministry said the ecosystem has also expanded significantly in terms of institutional participation. More than 5.33 lakh health facilities and nearly 9.85 lakh healthcare professionals have been registered on the national digital health registries, strengthening the foundation for integrated digital healthcare delivery.

During the review meeting, discussions focused on strengthening state-level implementation, expanding integration with various government health programmes, encouraging greater participation from private healthcare providers and building capacity across stakeholders. The ministry also highlighted the importance of maintaining robust data privacy and cybersecurity standards as digital health records continue to grow. Addressing the meeting, Health Minister J.P. Nadda said India has successfully established one of the world’s largest digital health ecosystems under ABDM. He stressed that the next phase of the mission should prioritize maximizing the use of the digital infrastructure already created, ensuring that citizens, healthcare providers and institutions derive greater value from the platform.

The government believes that the continued expansion of ABDM will improve healthcare accessibility, enhance efficiency in service delivery, support evidence-based policymaking and accelerate the country’s journey towards a digitally connected and patient-centric healthcare system under the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
