To observe of Ayurveda Day, the Government of India has officially declared September 23 as the fixed date for its annual celebration. This announcement was made through a Gazette Notification issued on March 23, as per the Ministry of AYUSH.

Previously, Ayurveda Day was celebrated on Dhanteras, whose date varies each year based on the lunar calendar, typically falling between mid-October and mid-November. This variability created challenges in organizing coordinated national and international events.

To establish a fixed, practical, and symbolic date, the Ministry of AYUSH formed an expert committee to explore suitable alternatives. After evaluating four possible dates, September 23 was chosen for its alignment with the autumnal equinox, a day when daylight and darkness are nearly equal. This natural balance reflects Ayurveda’s core principle of harmony between mind, body, and spirit.

The Ministry emphasized that the new date will provide a consistent and meaningful foundation for future observances, allowing better planning and wider participation. It has called upon healthcare professionals, educational institutions, and global partners to actively engage in celebrating Ayurveda Day on September 23 each year.

This change is also intended to support the broader global integration of Ayurveda as a credible, holistic, and preventive healthcare system rooted in natural balance and sustainable wellness.
