Apollo Children’s Hospital, Chennai, has launched South India’s first Centre of Excellence for Pediatric Robotic Urology, marking a significant advancement in robotic-assisted care for children with urological disorders. The new centre is dedicated to providing minimally invasive surgical treatment for both congenital and acquired urinary tract conditions in pediatric patients.

The facility builds upon Apollo’s pediatric robotic surgery programme, which has successfully performed more than 400 robotic-assisted procedures since its inception in 2012. The programme has been led by Dr. V. Sripathi, Senior Consultant Pediatric Urologist and Robotic Surgeon, and has played a pioneering role in introducing robotic technology for pediatric urology in India.

After more than a decade of clinical experience, the programme has now evolved into a dedicated Centre of Excellence, reflecting Apollo’s continued focus on advancing specialized pediatric surgical care.

The hospital has also demonstrated the effectiveness of robotic surgery in infants, with its youngest successfully treated patient being only 50 days old and weighing 3.5 kg, highlighting the precision and safety of the technology in carefully selected cases.

The Centre will offer robotic-assisted surgical management for a wide range of pediatric urological conditions. The robotic platform allows surgeons to perform complex procedures with enhanced precision through smaller incisions, which can help reduce postoperative pain, limit blood loss, shorten hospital stays, and promote quicker recovery, depending on the patient’s clinical condition.

The Centre of Excellence was inaugurated by Dr. Ilankumaran Kaliamoorthy, Chief Executive Officer, Apollo Hospitals, Chennai Region, in the presence of Dr. Sushila Narayanasamy, Unit Head, Apollo Women’s & Children’s Hospitals.
