AIIMS Raipur has become the first government hospital in Central India to introduce a robotic surgery facility called Devhast. The inauguration took place in the presence of Vishnu Deo Sai, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, and Shyam Bihari Jaiswal, Hon’ble Health Minister.
This advanced technology allows for minimally invasive surgeries that offer enhanced precision and safety, leading to quicker recovery times, less pain, and shorter hospital stays. The centre will also function as an academic hub, providing training and research opportunities in robotic-assisted surgery for postgraduate students and resident doctors.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai highlighted the significance of this development, stating it marks a new era in public healthcare for the region. He emphasized that robotic-assisted surgery will improve patient access to cutting-edge treatments and boost Chhattisgarh’s reputation as a center for medical education and innovation.
Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal praised AIIMS Raipur for setting a benchmark by being the first government medical institution in Central India to offer robotic surgery, strengthening its role in healthcare delivery and medical research.
Lt. Gen Ashok Jindal (Retd), Executive Director of AIIMS Raipur, thanked the Central and State Governments for their support and underscored the importance of this milestone. He said the program will improve patient outcomes with precision surgery and minimally invasive techniques, while also contributing to the training of surgeons and the advancement of academic research, aiming to develop surgical skills for the future.
The centre features a dual-console da Vinci Xi Surgical System and advanced simulators like SimNow, which help trainees progress from assisting bedside to performing surgeries independently under supervision. Initially, robotic surgeries will be offered in the fields of Urology, General Surgery, ENT, and Obstetrics & Gynecology.
Dr. Dibyajyoti Mohanty, Head of General Surgery and Nodal Officer, along with Dr. Amit Sharma, Head of Urology and Programme Coordinator, shared insights about the benefits and applications of the new robotic system.
During the launch event, a B.Sc. Nursing student, Ms. Jyotsna Kirado, was honored by the Chief Minister for naming the system “Devhast.”
This new facility means patients from Chhattisgarh and nearby states will no longer need to travel to big cities for complex surgeries, allowing them to access affordable, world-class medical care close to home.
