AIIMS Jammu has unveiled plans to create a Global Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare, following a high-level visit on 15 November 2025 by a delegation from the UK-based Axonic Health and Claidroid Technologies. The visiting team comprising Dr. Abhay Chopada, Prof. (Dr.) B.L. Raina and Vinay Sawarkar was briefed on the institute’s current and upcoming AI projects across diagnostics, predictive care, clinical decision support, surgery, virtual health and telemedicine.
Prof. (Dr.) Shakti Kumar Gupta highlighted the institute’s ongoing digital transformation efforts and long-term vision to integrate AI into all aspects of healthcare delivery. After the delegation’s visit, a detailed Zoom demonstration was conducted for all HODs and departmental teams, led by Dr. Chopada. The session showcased a comprehensive suite of AI-powered healthcare tools, illustrating how advanced clinical expertise can be paired with cutting-edge technology.
The workshop gave AIIMS Jammu’s departments hands-on exposure to the platform, helping them explore ways to apply AI in patient care, medical education and hospital management. The proposed CoE aims to significantly enhance patient and provider experience AI-driven triage, for instance, is expected to cut waiting times and help clinicians identify and prioritise urgent cases more effectively.
The Centre will also serve as a global training destination, equipping doctors, nurses, technicians and researchers with internationally accredited AI competencies, thereby building a workforce capable of using AI responsibly and safely. Claidroid Technologies has committed to supporting AIIMS Jammu’s digital expansion by bringing advanced expertise and innovation to the initiative.
Aligned with India’s wider HealthTech agenda and the ‘Digital Jammu’ vision, the CoE aims to make the region a key hub for AI-led healthcare innovation. It will ensure AI systems are ethical, secure and fully compliant with data protection and clinical safety norms. International partnerships will help bring global knowledge in diagnostics, telemedicine, virtual care and decision support, potentially expanding AI-enabled healthcare to tier-3 cities and remote areas.
Calling the initiative transformative, Prof. (Dr.) Gupta said the Centre will drive predictive, preventive and precision-based care, benefiting patients, clinicians and the broader healthcare system, while setting new standards for innovation in the sector.
