The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, has entered into a landmark partnership with Germany’s TU Dresden to drive advancements in surgery through artificial intelligence and cutting‑edge technologies.
The collaboration was formalized through a Letter of Intent (LoI) signed by Prof. Ursula Staudinger, Rector of TU Dresden, and Dr. M. Srinivas, Director of AIIMS, marking the start of a long‑term alliance in translational research, clinical adoption of digital tools, and joint startup incubation.
This milestone stems from a three‑day Indo‑German workshop on “Artificial Intelligence, Extended Reality, and Robotics in Healthcare: Emerging Pathways from Diagnosis to Therapy” held from July 16–18 at TU Dresden under the aegis of the Indo‑German Science & Technology Centre (IGSTC). The event brought together more than 50 experts-clinicians, researchers, innovators, and industry leaders-from both countries. Supported by the Embassy of India in Germany, the workshop reflected a shared ambition between the two nations to co‑develop deep‑tech solutions for modern healthcare.
The collaboration is built on TU Dresden’s transCampus model, a global innovation platform created with IIT Madras, which integrates engineering, data science, and medical expertise. With AIIMS New Delhi joining as a core partner, the alliance is set to become a major force in healthcare innovation.
Prof. Staudinger emphasized, “TU Dresden is bringing Germany’s top medical engineering capabilities together with India’s clinical strengths to build a robust interdisciplinary research model.”
Dr. Srinivas added, “This is a game changer-combining AIIMS’ clinical experience with TU Dresden’s engineering prowess to create future‑ready healthcare systems that can impact patients not just in India and Germany, but worldwide.”
The AIIMS delegation included senior clinicians such as Dr. Sandeep Agarwala (Paediatric Surgery), Dr. Nitish Naik (Cardiology), Dr. M. D. Ray (Surgical Oncology), Dr. Anita Dhar (Surgical Disciplines), and Dr. Kritika Rangarajan (Radio Diagnosis), among others.
Inaugurated by Dr. Ramanuj Banerjee, Science Counsellor at the Indian Embassy in Berlin, on behalf of Ambassador Ajit Gupte, the event also served as a milestone in Indo‑German science diplomacy.
