Afghanistan has sought India’s assistance to strengthen specialised healthcare services, including cancer and thalassemia treatment, during a meeting between Afghanistan’s Minister of Public Health Mawlavi Noor Jalal Jalali and Indian Chargé d’Affaires Jatin Patel.
According to Afghanistan’s Ministry of Public Health, the meeting focused on expanding health-sector cooperation and strengthening healthcare services in the country.
Jalali requested Indian support for the Indira Gandhi Children’s Hospital, including assistance in equipping a cancer hospital, training and capacity building for healthcare workers, and support to activate the thalassemia unit at Indira Gandhi Hospital.
Patel assured continued Indian cooperation in Afghanistan’s health sector. He said India would support the equipment needs of the thalassemia unit and provide chemotherapy medicines and radiotherapy machines.
The discussions are part of ongoing health cooperation between India and Afghanistan, with a focus on improving specialised treatment capacity and healthcare infrastructure.
