Abbott, the global healthcare leader, has unveiled a new and improved version of its nutritional product ‘Ensure Diabetes Care’ in India. The company said the upgraded formulation builds on three decades of scientific research and is backed by over 60 clinical studies, offering enhanced nutritional support for people living with diabetes.
The latest version features a triple care system enriched with key nutrients, including four times more myo-inositol than the earlier formula. It uses a low glycaemic index carbohydrate blend to help limit sudden spikes in blood sugar. The product is also high in protein and fibre, supporting better blood glucose management, cholesterol reduction, and weight control, Abbott said.
The advanced formulation is designed to help maintain lean muscle during weight loss and significantly cut down total body fat, including visceral fat the deep abdominal fat associated with heart disease, hypertension, and type 2 diabetes.
Diabetes remains one of the world’s fastest-growing health concerns, affecting 589 million adults globally a number projected to reach 853 million by 2050. India ranks second, with 101 million people living with the condition. Abbott said focusing on proven methods, including nutrition-based interventions, is essential for easing this growing burden.
Managing nutrition and maintaining healthy blood glucose levels can be challenging. Poor glycaemic control affects three out of every four people with diabetes due to factors like diet, genetics, and lifestyle.
Agnes Siew Ling Tey, PhD, senior clinical science and nutrition lead at Abbott’s Asia-Pacific R&D centre, said diabetes-specific nutritional formulas are a key element in diabetes care. She noted that research shows such products can improve glycaemic control, lower cardiometabolic risks, and support weight management when combined with lifestyle changes. The new Ensure Diabetes Care, she said, offers a convenient, science-backed option to help people make healthier adjustments.
The upgraded product includes slow-digesting carbohydrates, a dual blend of soluble and insoluble fibres, prebiotic FOS to support gut health, and a heart-healthy fat blend free of trans fats. It also provides vital vitamins and minerals such as vitamin D, chromium, calcium, and zinc to meet the nutritional needs of people with diabetes. The formula contains no added sucrose and is rich in protein and fibre.
Anirban Basu, general manager of Abbott’s nutrition division in India, said the new formula reflects the company’s commitment to offering science-based nutrition solutions. As diabetes continues to affect millions, innovations like this can help individuals better manage their condition and lead healthier, more active lives, he added.
