Government hospitals across Uttar Pradesh witnessed a significant rise in patient footfall during 2025-26, with overall patient numbers increasing by nearly 16%, according to official data from the Hospital Information System (HIS). The growth has been attributed to improved healthcare infrastructure, expanded medical services and growing public confidence in government healthcare facilities.
OPD Visits Cross 26 Crore
HIS data showed that government hospitals recorded 26.21 crore OPD visits in 2025-26, compared with 23.26 crore in 2024-25. This represents an increase of nearly 2.95 crore visits, or 12.7%, in one year.
Inpatient Admissions Rise Nearly 20%
Inpatient admissions also recorded a substantial increase. The number of patients admitted to government hospitals rose from 1.03 crore in 2024-25 to 1.23 crore in 2025-26, marking an increase of 20.29 lakh admissions, or around 19.7%.
Healthcare Infrastructure Strengthened
Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak said the increase in patient numbers reflects growing confidence in government healthcare services. He said the state government is working to make public healthcare more accessible, efficient, modern and patient-centric.
Government hospitals have been equipped with modern medical equipment, while services such as dialysis, pathology and radiology have been expanded. Ambulance services have also been strengthened to ensure timely transportation of patients.
Focus on Healthcare Schemes
The health department is also focusing on ensuring that eligible beneficiaries receive the benefits of central and state healthcare schemes.
Pathak said the government will continue strengthening hospital facilities and resources so that patients can receive quality, accessible and timely treatment across Uttar Pradesh.
