Centre Expands National Dialysis Network Across All States and UTs

The Government of India has successfully implemented the Pradhan Mantri National Dialysis Programme (PMNDP) across all 36 States and Union Territories, significantly strengthening access to free dialysis services for patients suffering from kidney diseases.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the programme is now operational in 751 districts, including 44 linked districts, through 1,856 haemodialysis centres equipped with 13,535 dialysis machines as of June 30, 2026.

Launched under the National Health Mission (NHM), PMNDP aims to provide free haemodialysis services to eligible patients by establishing dialysis facilities in district hospitals and other public healthcare institutions. The initiative seeks to reduce the financial burden on patients requiring regular dialysis treatment.

The Centre stated that dialysis centres are established based on proposals submitted by States and UTs through their annual Programme Implementation Plans (PIPs), following a detailed assessment of local healthcare needs and infrastructure gaps.

To ensure effective implementation, the Ministry conducts regular monitoring through Common Review Missions (CRM) and field visits by senior officials. During these reviews, any non-functional dialysis centres are identified and brought to the attention of the respective State or UT government for corrective action.

While the Centre provides technical and financial support under NHM, the responsibility for operationalising dialysis centres, deploying trained manpower, and ensuring uninterrupted services lies with the concerned State governments and implementing partners.

The nationwide expansion of PMNDP is expected to improve access to life-saving dialysis services, particularly in underserved and remote regions, while strengthening India’s public healthcare infrastructure.
