The Central government has appointed senior IAS officer Anurag Jain as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NITI Aayog, the country’s premier public policy think tank. The appointment has been approved for a two-year term by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).
Jain, a 1989-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the Madhya Pradesh cadre, will take charge with immediate effect, according to an official government order. He will serve as CEO for the duration of his approved service extension and continue in the position for a total period of two years or until further orders, whichever comes first.
As the head of NITI Aayog’s executive arm, Jain will lead the institution’s efforts in shaping India’s development strategy. His responsibilities will include promoting evidence-driven policymaking, enhancing cooperative and competitive federalism, and working closely with state governments and central ministries to implement key reforms and national initiatives.
His appointment comes at a time when NITI Aayog is actively driving policy frameworks to support economic growth, innovation, governance reforms, and the government’s long-term vision of transforming India into a developed nation under the ‘Viksit Bharat’ mission.
With decades of administrative experience across key government roles, Jain is expected to strengthen NITI Aayog’s policy leadership and ensure effective coordination in implementing the Centre’s development priorities.
