Major General Debashish Mukherjee has assumed charge as the Commandant of Command Hospital (Eastern Command), Kolkata, effective July 8, 2026. The Eastern Command of the Indian Army welcomed him to the new role and extended its best wishes for a successful tenure.
An alumnus of the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, Maj Gen Mukherjee is a renowned Surgical Oncologist with over three decades of distinguished service in the Armed Forces Medical Services. During his career, he has held several important clinical, academic and leadership positions within the Armed Forces medical establishment.
As Commandant, he will lead Command Hospital (Eastern Command), one of the Indian Armed Forces’ premier tertiary care hospitals, overseeing specialised healthcare services for serving personnel, veterans and their families. He will also focus on further strengthening the hospital’s clinical excellence and operational medical capabilities.
The Eastern Command expressed confidence that Maj Gen Mukherjee’s extensive expertise and leadership will contribute significantly to enhancing healthcare standards and medical support across the Command.
