Apollo Hospitals names Dr Harit Kumar Chaturvedi as CEO of Oncology Network

Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Limited has appointed Dr Harit Kumar Chaturvedi as Chief Executive Officer and Clinical Head of its Apollo Oncology Network, reinforcing its leadership in cancer care.

Bringing close to four decades of experience in surgical oncology, Dr Chaturvedi rejoins Apollo with deep clinical expertise and proven leadership in advancing cancer treatment in India. His appointment aligns with the group’s long-term vision of building a nationwide, technology-driven oncology ecosystem with a strong focus on subspecialisation and organ-specific care.

Dr Chaturvedi holds degrees in MBBS, MS (General Surgery), and MCh (Surgical Oncology). Over his 38-year career, he has handled complex cancer cases spanning head and neck, breast, thoracic, gastrointestinal, and gynaecologic cancers. He is also known for his expertise in robotic surgery, minimally invasive procedures, and radiofrequency ablation.

He has been instrumental in developing one of North India’s prominent oncology ecosystems by introducing organ-based cancer units, multidisciplinary tumour boards, and collaborative national research initiatives. He also served as Organising Secretary of the Indian Cancer Congress 2013, a key milestone event in the country’s oncology landscape.

Throughout his career, he has held leadership roles in major oncology organisations such as the Indian Society of Oncology and the Indian Association of Surgical Oncology.

Commenting on the appointment, Preetha Reddy, Executive Vice Chairperson of Apollo Hospitals, described Dr Chaturvedi as an exceptional surgical oncologist and institution builder, highlighting his ability to create high-performing teams and drive clinical excellence.

Dr Chaturvedi earlier served as Senior Consultant in Surgical Oncology at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals from 2000 to 2004.

Sharing his vision, he said his focus will be on enhancing subspecialised care, expanding robotic and minimally invasive surgical capabilities, and strengthening multidisciplinary treatment protocols across the network.

Apollo Hospitals noted that patients from 147 countries visit India for cancer treatment at its facilities. In his new role, Dr Chaturvedi will collaborate with a team of over 25 specialised oncologists to further strengthen integrated cancer care across the network.
