Students seeking admission to paramedical degree courses in Uttar Pradesh will not have to appear for an entrance examination this year. Admissions will now be granted on the basis of merit. The merit lists will be prepared at the university level. The Medical Education Department has issued an official order in this regard.

More than 10,000 seats are available in various government and private colleges across the state for degree-level paramedical courses, including Bachelor in Physiotherapy (BPT), Radiology, MRI Technician, Operation Theatre Technology, Optometry, Renal Dialysis, Respiratory Technician, and others.

For the past two years, admissions to these degree courses were being conducted through a written entrance examination. Merit was prepared based on the marks obtained in the entrance test, followed by seat allotment through counselling. Last year, more than 1,000 seats in private colleges remained vacant.

Meanwhile, the National Allied and Healthcare Council has also given its consent for merit-based admissions in paramedical degree courses. Following this, the Medical Education Department has directed that admissions to all paramedical degree courses in the state will now be done on the basis of merit.

Merit lists for private colleges affiliated to Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University will be prepared by the university itself. Similarly, other universities will prepare their own merit lists for the colleges affiliated to them.
