The state government has appointed Dr. Pawan Kumar Arun as Director General (Medical and Health Services) after five days of deliberations. The appointment was notified through a government order.
The post had been vacant since January 31 following the retirement of the former Director General, Dr. R.P.S. Suman. A permanent appointment was awaited to ensure continuity in administrative functioning.
Along with the appointment of the Director General of Health, the government has announced changes at the senior level of the Health Department.
As per the order:
- Dr. Hari Das Agrawal has been appointed Director General, Family Welfare.
- Dr. Ranjana Khare has been given charge as Director General, Training.
Dr. Pawan Kumar Arun was previously serving as Director General, Family Welfare. He has also held positions including Director General, Training, and Director of Balrampur Hospital, Lucknow.
The Director General (Medical and Health Services) is responsible for overseeing medical institutions and public health services across the state, including district hospitals, community health centres, primary health centres, urban health units, and specialised healthcare services.
The Family Welfare Directorate oversees population stabilisation programmes, maternal and child health initiatives, immunisation drives, and reproductive health services under various state and national schemes.
The Training Directorate is responsible for capacity-building programmes for doctors, nursing staff, paramedical personnel, and health officials.
The appointments come at a time when the state is implementing multiple healthcare initiatives, including hospital upgrades, expansion of services, and strengthening of primary and rural healthcare infrastructure.
