King George’s Medical University (KGMU) has terminated the admission of resident doctor Rameezuddin after its Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) found him guilty of emotional, mental and physical harassment of a woman colleague.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Soniya Nityanand said the decision, the highest level of disciplinary action, has been forwarded to the Directorate General of Medical Education for further action. The accused was suspended on December 22 and banned from entering the campus.
ICC chairperson Prof Monica Kohli said the complaint was received on December 21. The accused appeared only once before the panel, claimed the relationship was consensual and denied being married, a claim later found to be false. After December 23, he went absconding, following which the ICC completed the inquiry based on available evidence and recommended strict action.
The victim doctor had earlier attempted suicide on December 17 and was hospitalised in critical condition. Following the incident, she has been provided police security, shifted to a hostel for safety and granted 20 days’ leave.
Separately, a seven-member fact-finding committee is probing allegations of forced conversion and extremist activities on the KGMU campus and is expected to submit its report within 10 days.
