Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced on Friday (September 5) that all government teachers in the state will now have access to cashless medical treatment, benefiting nearly 9 lakh families. This medical facility will include teachers working in government primary, upper-primary, secondary, aided schools and colleges, as well as shiksha mitras, instructors, and cooks.
During a state-level event in Lucknow marking Teachers’ Day, where he honoured teachers, distributed tablets, and inaugurated smart classrooms, the Chief Minister assured that teachers and their families will no longer face financial hardships during illness or emergencies.
He described the announcement as historic and a gesture of the government’s appreciation for teachers’ contributions. The Basic Education, Secondary Education, and Higher Education departments have been tasked with completing all necessary procedures swiftly to implement this benefit within a designated timeline.
Yogi Adityanath emphasized the lifelong importance of teachers, calling them more important than bureaucrats or politicians because they lay the foundation for the nation. He praised principals and teachers who have demonstrated dedication and innovation, despite opposition to certain educational initiatives like school mergers and Bal Vatika programs.
At the event, 81 teachers were honoured with the State Teacher Award for their outstanding contributions, including 66 from Basic Education and 15 from Secondary Education.
He felicitated select principals and teachers from basic and secondary education with cash prizes of Rs 25,000, citations, statues of Goddess Saraswati, and shawls. Tablets were distributed to principals of 2,204 government secondary schools, and smart classrooms were inaugurated in 1,236 government secondary model schools.
The CM announced the creation of a high-level committee to review and recommend increases to allowances for shiksha mitras and instructors, with the government to decide on the matter after the committee’s report is received.
