PM Narendra Modi on June 26, urged all states to expedite the development of healthcare infrastructure, especially in aspirational districts and remote, tribal and border regions.
During a review meeting on the progress of projects under the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM), the Prime Minister stressed the importance of ensuring fair and quality healthcare access for the poor, underserved and marginalised communities.
He highlighted the need for prompt and continuous efforts to address existing gaps in essential healthcare services in these areas.
Launched on February 1, 2021, PM-ABHIM is a centrally sponsored scheme with a budget of ₹64,180 crore to be implemented over six years, concluding in FY 2025-26. The mission focuses on strengthening health infrastructure and institutional capacity at primary, secondary and tertiary levels. It also aims to enhance the healthcare system’s ability to effectively tackle current and future pandemics and health emergencies.
