A total of 200 Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs) across 32 districts in Bihar have received the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) certification, according to an announcement by State Health Minister Mangal Pandey. This certification affirms that these facilities have met stringent benchmarks in areas such as patient care, clinical services, and overall healthcare delivery, as outlined by the national quality framework.

While other states, such as Kerala, have also reported similar achievements with over 200 public hospitals certified there this recognition specifically applies to Bihar’s primary care HWCs, as highlighted in a recent Patna news report.

The NQAS certification process includes a thorough evaluation of various aspects like service delivery, patient rights, infection control, and quality management systems. To qualify, each facility must comply with at least seven essential healthcare service packages. Once awarded, the certification remains valid for three years, with yearly follow-up assessments to ensure continued compliance.

This achievement marks a major step forward for Bihar in enhancing the standards and dependability of its primary healthcare system.
